Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church has a Special Needs Ministry which serves the needs of people with special needs in our parish community. There is a Mass for people with special needs every 1st Saturday of the month in the auditorium at 4:00 pm. It is a Mass where special needs people of all ages may attend Mass with their family and friends in an environment where they may feel more comfortable worshipping. It is a very warm, accepting and welcoming environment. It is certainly not limited only to people with special needs. All people are welcome and wanted!
The Mass is of a slightly shorter duration than a typical Mass, which is helpful to some people with special needs. After the Mass there are refreshments and fellowship! The people with special needs who attend are also involved in and are an integral part of the ministries in the Mass. For example, they may serve as readers, they may bring up the gifts, and they may help to take up the collection.
There are several opportunities for offerers in this ministry, such as setting up, serving and/or cleaning up after the refreshments, being a greeter at the door, etc. In addition, there are occasional meetings regarding the Mass, which anyone is welcome to attend if they want to learn more about the ministry, contribute suggestions or ideas, and learn how they can become a part of it all.
