Liturgy Committee
In the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy from Vatican II, we read in article 14: “The Church earnestly desires that all the faithful be led to that full, conscious and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as ‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people’ (1 Pt 2:9; see 2:4-5) is their right and duty by reason of their baptism. In the reform and promotion of the liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered above all else.”
The OLPH Liturgy Committee has as its goal to attain to the fullest extent possible in the liturgical life of OLPH parish the desire expressed in the above paragraph. Meeting once a month, the Liturgy Committee guides and directs the liturgical life of OLPH parish and advises the Pastor on all matters liturgical. Specifically, the responsibilities of the members of the Liturgy Committee include, though are not limited to, the following: |
● being imbued with the spirit of the reform of the liturgy begun with Vatican II, allowing the liturgy to be the source and summit of our parish life, sharing this spirit with all in the parish;
● calling forth the gifts of others to facilitate the full, active, and conscious participation of all parishioners as demanded by the very nature of liturgy;
● being in contact with the programs and initiatives of our diocesan Office of Worship, including making diocesan training and enrichment programs available to parishioners;
● regularly evaluating the liturgical life of the parish to ascertain where we should be headed and what we should be doing to bring about the vision of the reformed liturgy;
● coordinating all the various liturgical ministries in the parish;
● preparing and taking leadership with the major liturgical feasts and seasons in all their aspects, as well as other sacramental and parish liturgical celebrations throughout the year;
● providing ongoing education and formation experiences for the parish-at-large and ongoing formation for liturgical ministers;
● promoting a sense of joy, unity, and the glory due to God through our worship together.
The members of the Liturgy Committee are glad to be of service to the parish. Questions or comments concerning the committee or the liturgical life of the parish may be addressed to the committee through the parish offices.
