Adult Faith Formation
Formation in the faith is an ongoing process and expectation throughout the Christian’s life. There is always more to learn and understand about the riches and traditions of the Catholic faith. Think about it like this. Would you prefer to go to a doctor who stopped learning about medicine when he or she finished medical school, say twenty years ago, or would you prefer to go to a doctor who keeps up with the latest research and information?
In Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us: A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops puts forth three goals for Adult Faith Formation:.
* Invite and Enable Ongoing Conversion to Jesus in Holiness of Life.
* Promote and Support Active Membership in the Christian Community.
* Call and Prepare Adults to Act as Disciples in Mission to the World.
At Our Lady of Perpetual Help, courses in Adult Faith Formation are offered four to five times a year (usually one night a week for five weeks). In addition, we hope to offer one night workshops about important issues. Courses are offered through the Diocese of Rockville Centre so individuals may earn a Basic or Advanced Certificate in Catechesis.
